My first experience with Power Support screen protectors was with my iPhone 3G. I had a flawless installation and screen protection that lasted 2 years. So as you can imagine, I expect the best from Power Support. But not from myself, sadly.

This time, instead of waiting until I got home in a controlled environment, I decided to install my screen protector while I was out, under the constant whir of ceiling fans. BIG mistake! But luckily I was able to correct my mistake (bubbles and lint everywhere!) with a bit of water. Whew! Still a great product! Once I got everything cleaned up, the Crystal film is super clear and smudge free. You can wash it and reinstall it if you’re a total screw up like me! Good thing to know!

It aligns perfectly front and back. Though I did miss the little installation tabs from the 3G model, thus the 4 stars. That would have helped tremendously in my correcting my mistake.

So, take a lesson from me. Do NOT install your screen protector under gale force winds and you’ll do just fine!

I’ve used power support products for all of my previous apple displays and was quite happy until my last experience with my Iphone 4G and PS crystal back. The anti glare goes on rather well, but the crystal back is a disappointment as it does not fit well in the flash/lens portion to the edge. The website indicates that it fits with the bumper, and I must disagree, as the edge continues to pull out and cannot seem to be adjusted to lay flat when taken in and out of a pocket. It seems to be too close to the edge and pulls away too easily. I tried to get some support from the company, but after three emails and pictures, I gave up looking for a replacement crystal backing and will move on to another product. My experience has shown me that the crystal film products from this company are a disappointment, as was the email exchange with customer service. I will stick with the anti glare front for now.

here’s a tip for those of you who may be slightly unhappy with the results of your installation of these films:

first and foremost, wash your hands!

have some “Scotch” tape handy… the standard transparent stuff. take that and everything else with you into the bathroom and turn on your shower to hot. the steam will help pull much dust out of the air. unfortunately, this will not completely resolve any dust on your person that will fall onto the screen as you’re applying the protective film… but to minimize the issue, use the included strips of white tape that comes with the kit to cover your device’s screen until the last second before you go to apply the film. BUT, now you’ll take strips of the scotch tape and apply it to the adhesive side of the film (the adhesive side of both the tape and film facing each other). tape up the underside except for a narrow strip down the middle… leave it exposed. now lay the taped film upon the glass. the now smaller area of exposed adhesive on the film will allow you to easily readjust the the film to get the alignment just perfect.

once you’re properly aligned, press firmly on the area that’s exposed, removing any air bubbles. using a firm grip while holding the film to the glass, begin to gently pull the Scotch tape out from between the film and glass without lifting the film upwards… just pull the tape outwards slowly. this will maintain your exact alignment (this is especially important for a high grade film like PowerSupport’s due to their very accurate sizing). if there are any bubbles, smooth them out with a squeegee, but be careful if there are any trapped particles so as not to create irreparable pimples in the film.

now, if you discover any trapped particles or need to make adjustments after install, start by tearing off a couple more pieces of Scotch tape, about 2 inches long, and attach one to each end of the screen once your screen protector is installed. these will be used to help lift the screen protector from the glass easily and without damaging the film. it also helps prevent dirt from beneath your fingernails from being stuck to the adhesive surface of the film as you wont need to scrape up a corner of the film.

turn off your iphone on and open a blank Safari page. tear off a few more pieces of Scotch tape and have it ready at the edge of the work surface. look carefully at the screen; with the white screen you’ll be able to more easily see any lint trapped under the film. larger dust particles will be easy to spot as they may cause bubbling. now keep in mind that these particles are stuck to the mild adhesive underside of the protective film.

now gently lift up the film using the tape you applied to each end of the device. while holding the film barely off the surface of the glass, take a strip of tape with the sticky side up and place it under any dust particles you saw, between the film and glass. now press down on the dust particle, letting go of the film. now hold the film to the glass and pull the end of the inverted strip of tape.

et voila! the dust and lint should be stuck to the tape. repeat this procedure until satisfied, being extra careful while removing the tape you used to lift the film off the surface to prevent creasing the film. this is the best way i know of to get a completely dust-free installation without having to locate a sealed, dust-free facility.

This purchase gave me 1 pleasant surprise after another. Before this I tried the Splash screen protector that came with the holster for my husband but it didn’t turn out very good. As expected, there were bubbles after several attempts of putting it on so we gave up. So I didn’t put too much expectations into this one but it turned out much better. I love all of its features:

    - This came with 3 screen protectors, 2 different ones for the front screen and 1 back screen.

    - The “pre-installation films” are super sticky stickers that pick up virtually all the dust particles before you apply the screen protectors.

    - The 2 front screen films are very easy to install because you can apply in small sections first. Also, after applying, we found a few small bubbles that we couldn’t push off b/c of some dust particles stuck inside. So we pulled the whole film off and started over and it still stuck just as well with hardly any bubbles.

    - Keep in mind the 2 types of film, the crystal one is the one I really like better b/c you can still see the clarity and sharpness of the retina screen, as if the film is not there. Whereas the HD anti-glare, when compared side-by-side with the crystal, it’s not as clear and you can see the tiny pixels. I’d love to buy another set just for that crystal film!

Overall, I recommend this combo. You can buy it for 2 iphones (like I did) so it has very good value. The best thing is I know it worked for me (instead of wasting money on other cheaper products that you end up tossing).

  5. I have been very pleased with this iphone screen. I read reviews and selected this one from Power Support.

They provide a cleaning tape to pull off dust. I recommend using a lint free cloth first (provide your own).

Their crystal screen has worked well on my iPhone 3G and now I have it on my iPhone 4. It protect the screen well from scratches and keeps finger prints at a minimum. Mine lasted almost 2 years and they provide you with two.

The screens are easy to take off too, and my old iPhone 3G was still pristine after taking the screen off.

You may want a crystal screen for the back on the iPhone 4 to protect it too.

Like with all screens, be very careful applying it on making sure you align it correctly with the camera/LED light opening in back and the phone speaker, front camera, and home button in front.
